The creator of Flight of the Amazon Queen just posted a postmortem over at Gamasutra, check it out. I've never taken to the time to finish the game myself but it's pretty cool that just three guys could make something that surpassed even a few of the LucasArts titles. Graphically speaking that is.

Hello, I've been toying with some backgrounds over the weekend. Pretty happy with the mood and color. Am wondering how readable they are though. Maybe I should do really clean shading? I tried to get that Gemini Rue style, though my rooms are about half the size.

Living room:

Let me know what you think.

The second chapter has just been released on Steam and I can't believe it wasn't announced here!

Looks very pretty and I can't wait to dive into the world once again.

Edit by Andail: made this a new topic instead of adding to the first game's thread

Just announced at Sony E3 conference. No footage though just an announcement so it's pretty awesome.

I'm wanting to make a game that's set in a cold environment and I was curious if/how particles could be done in AGS to create an effect of seeing the player character's breath in the air. I found this but it's obsolete now. Any ideas how it would bee done? I'm thinking something like spawning a sprite at the players head that animates a view but I don't know how to do that. I could also just put it in the idle animation but then wouldn't be able to see it when walking and would cut off if you moved while your breath was dispersing.

This is a new point and click adventure game i found that comes out on Halloween this yeaar. It looks really cool and has a cute art style, very reminiscent of the Humongous Games thick black outlines.

Check it out here. And here are some pictures.

It's made with Game Maker which is pretty astounding.

Any thoughts on this?

I can't seem to find the right colors. I'll probably add a desk or something later. Vault is noisy too.

Critics' Lounge / Background Critique?
« on: 31 Jul 2013, 05:58 »

It's a police station hall. Trying to emulate gameboy's style I guess, I think i used to many colors and dirty dithering.

It looks really dumb, more of the same and I couldn't care less. :P

But I was surprised it got finished.

It seems like we have a lot of them. But what adventure game can be our Citizen Kane?

Beginners' Technical Questions / Walk and talk
« on: 12 Jun 2013, 06:18 »
I think this came up before and there were no solutions. But I'm wondering if it's possible to enable walking and using mouse cursors while a dialogue is going on? Obviously the bottom will be black and display the dialogue options, and I'll use SayBackground so it follows the characters as they walk around.

So adventure games are really booming again. The creators of The Neverhood just launched their new Kickstarter for Amrikrog, go check it out.

Hi, I'm wanting to make all speech be displayed in the top left corner like old Lucas Arts games and also not be centered but aligned to the left. Can you even move how the speech text is displayed?

Also I'm wondering how you would make the speech type out like a typewriter?

I'm just curious, how would you find and pay a background artist? Is it weekly wages, or per background? What's the going rate and such?

Critics' Lounge / Want to learn to tablet
« on: 09 Feb 2013, 07:22 »
So I got a tablet a few days ago, after practicing a bit with it I made this background inspired by Gemini Rue, it's very rough but I'd love to get some critiques.

Basically putting Khris' GotThere module into a single eBlock type called eBlockNone (or whatever). So,

Code: Adventure Game Studio
  1. cPlayer.Walk(82, 132, eNoneBlock, eWalkableAreas);

Would walk the player to the coords, he can cancel it and click somewhere else while walking there, once he gets there it will play the rest of the script. Sorry if this isn't what this forum is for, if if this has been asked already.
