Thanks for your comments so far everyone.  Thanks for the heads up on the copyright info - i didn't think it would really matter (as Quintaros mentioned I'm already using the Superman name/character) but i figured 2 things: a) better safe than sorry and b) I was fixed on trying to imitate John Williams style while not duplicating his work.  I wanted to make it original with a touch of old superman thrown in there here and there (like i did in the outro of the song).  so i just wanted it basically to not sound like you were playing a batman game or some other genre - i wanted you to know it's a superman game.  I think i accomplished that - although, according to some comments I may have undershot a tad.  In future scores for the game, I'll bring some familiar themes back from the movies or something.

NIKOLAS:
you asked what instruments i was using.  I use the program Finale 2006 and the instruments i use are basically a standard orchestra (w/ a few minor adjustments).  However, you can set playback in finale to make it not sound like standard midi and make it sound more like real instruments (you can also use the Garritan software - which i don't have unfort. - and actually have REAL instrument sounds) so saving it as mp3 makes it sound better than midi cus it sounds like it does when you play it back in finale.  saving it as a midi will sound just like a midi file and midi instruments - not as good quality i'm afraid.  Hope that answers your question - it's kind of hard to explain - at least i'm not doing a very good job at it.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Which Fatman is better?

i like both of them. here is my opinon:

i wouldn't go w/ the one on the right at all becuase he's not fat enough.

So, if i had to pick then it'd be the one on the left, however, I think he may be a bit too fat.  I think it'd be better if you made a happy medium - something in between those two.

I'm working on a Superman game.  It's going to be original in all most every way possible.  Including the music.  Now, I debated over this music thing for a while because I'm a huge fan of John Williams and the original theme he did.  I want peopel that play my game (especially Superman fans) not to lose that sense of comfort by not including the original Superman music.  However, I really feel like all the music needs to be original to make the game better (and for copyright reasons of course).

So here's the main theme I did.  It is original but will probably sound familiar because I tried to (while keeping it original) also give it that classic Superman sound. ( I even snuck in a little something at the end of the piece).

So check it out and tell me what ya think! :)

NOTE: this is the mp3 version - it has better quality than the midi. Also, you are not allowed to publish this piece in anyway, be it in a game or on a website or what have you without my permission!

***MUSIC***

I'm a musician/composer who is currently majoring in music composition. I'd be more than willing to compose some music for your game.  It's been a long while since I've wrote any video game music but I assure you I am very capable as I am on the path do doing this for a living one day.

So what I am trying to say is this: I don't really have any fitting samples of video game music to let you hear but here is my proposal - gimme a little project to work on (be it title screen music, battle music, just a little fanfare, whatever) and i'll compose you a lil something. If you like it - you can keep it and i'll write more for you - if not - then don't use me. I think it's a fair deal.  :)

When asking me to write music here is what i request and it will ultimately make the music better:

Include as much detail as humanly possible.  I hate it when I'm asked "Just write me a character theme for this main character" and i get no info on the character or how their input on how they'd like the music to sound.

So give me lots of detail:
-the mood of the piece
-the tempo of the piece
-how the piece will be used in game
-if you kind of have an idea of how you think it should sound do your best to -explain that to me
-even a screenshot of a character or area that the music will be used in would be very helpful
-if their is a song (whether it be from another game or whatever) that you kind of what your song to sound like I'd rather you not send me that song and just do your best to explain it - because I don't want to accidently "rip" some1 elses work.  However, if it's one of those "you've got to hear this" kind of things then it's cool.  ;D

Also, i'm beginning work on a game of my own. If you feel that you could contribute in anyway then that is all i ask of you in return of my service.

Thanks, Hope we can work together   :D

I've been working on a Superman game for the program RM3K (you're probably familiar with it).  However, I came across this point and click system and it caught my attention.  I've decided to give it a shot and see how it turns out.  I'm not a bad sprite artist but I no there are many people out there who are better.  I have created many graphics for the RM3K version (and a good general plot/story line - as well as some features I want to employ in the game)  but since I'm going to transition to AGS I think it would be best to revise the graphics.

I have small bits of knowledge in just about every area of game creating and could theoretically produce the game all by myself.  However, as I'm sure you all are aware, it is almost impossible (or at least very hard) for one person alone to complete a well balanced, highly entertaining, all around good game.  Since, I am taking this project very seriously, I would like to get all the help I can get in:

story line writers (superman fans apprecitated :-D)
programmers
Backgrounds/Title screens
Animations
Tile sets
Character sprites
(good sprite artists in general)
voice cast (i'd like to have real voices from the characters at key points)
as far as original music/sound effects goes - I'll handle all of that.  I am a music major and practiced composer/arranger.  In fact I hope to make it big one day composing for films and/or video games. But enough about me ...

If you think you'd be willing to help out or can at least tell me someone(s) who can it would be much appreciated.

note: I'm not quite ready to post screen shots or the plot just yet (but I do have these available for the RM3K version of the game) but if you are interested in working with me and would like more info then please contact me through PM or email (drewccu@gmail.com). If you have AIM or Yahoo! instant messenger then let me know in your message and what time zone/time you are on usually and we could chat via that.

Thank you,

DrewCCU
