Great little game, well thought-out and executed.
It creates a compelling experience, despite its minimalist nature.

I generally dislike dead ends but not here. They force you to plan your actions and they don't punish you excessively since the game is very short.

Adventure: Welcome to the Genre

Akril's "Adventure" series is a fantastic love letter to the genre, and the third installment is no exception. While it's recommended you play the first two games to familiarize yourself with the characters (and avoid spoilers), this third game shines because of all the original content and innovation that Akril brings to the table.

Most of the game is set in the "Mega-Game", an open-world filled with different art styles, where you'll wander from a 16-color desert at night into a lovingly painted daylight forest. Further into the game, you'll explore an area that I didn't even believe was possible in an AGS game, but blew my mind when I first saw it. The wildlife in particular was a major highlight for me, as a lot of animation and attention to detail went into bringing forest animals, sea life, and many other creatures to life.

The game's puzzles are challenging, but fair. I got frustrated on a couple, but when I eventually figured out the solutions, they seemed obvious in retrospect. Even the game's moon logic somehow fits within the game's internal logic, making for a few very memorable puzzle moments.

Cinematically, the game's cutscenes look wonderful. Akril puts a lot of work into her animation and can compose an exciting story sequence. During the game's dramatic finale, I had flashbacks of "Broken Sword" and "Curse of Monkey Island" as all the quick closeups and camera angles washed over me. It was a very exciting moment to see unfold, and a great payoff for a great game.

So I highly recommend this title! Check out the other two first, then jump in and enjoy the charm, innovation and wit of "Adventure: Welcome to the Genre"!

Cosmos Quest III

great series! all until now were already good. this one comes with a 1.99 price tag. While it deserves all. I payed several times more for my beer to accompany this great game!

Every new chapter the game looks better and better. The story is always nice and developing very well. No bugs and any issues at all. I player all 4 and 5th demo with not any single issue.

I always loved Sierra over Lucas. This one is 100% Sierra. Polished with no dead ends. Not over extended tiring dialogues.

Though I would love to see the short dialogues polished a little bit. All chapters are very fine but feels a bit cold. Maybe it could be a little funnier or scarier or whatever.

After all, I admire that a lot of very very good effort is dedicated to this series. I congratulate Kinanev for all the very good job. I hope he finishes the last chapter, chapter 5 very soon.

Rat Channel

What could have been a great story with clever allegories and social commentary is unfortunately held back by bad voice acting and a protagonist who speaks like a terrible parody of Apu from the Simpsons. It's a shame, since the world building and puzzles are good.

Fallen Hero

I didn't expect it to be so humorous, I like the story. Also, Cassie's pre-rendered 3d graphics are sweet. Nice work.

La Gran Castanya

You´ll never get much attention or publicity unless you put it in English...and possibly in universal Castillian Spanish.
You have to attend to the needs of your audience. As you´ll note adventure game studio is an English language site.

Detective Gallo

I love the atmosphere of this game, the music and voice acting really make it feel like a hard-boiled detective story, while the characters and story itself is much more off the wall, with some great humour. Surprisingly, the two styles work really well together, and this looks like it will be a fantastic full game.

Eerie Blue

This demo shows a lot of potential. There are some tense moments, and the gameplay is interesting, with the protagonist having different options available to her depending on her state of mind. The story also draws you in. I'm looking forward to being able to play the full game one day!

Bury Me in the Sand

I just loved this lovely short game! I don't know how to explain this well but it came across as using limited tools well to good effect - to me the graphics, although simply, were very arty with pleasing colours & I very much liked the story!

Adventure: Welcome to the Genre

I solved the whole game without resorting to hints of any kind and it was HARD but very rewarding, just like playing an adventure game back in the '90's when when you were stuck you were stuck and that was that.

I felt I was in good hands and that the puzzles would feel fair even after I had solved them and I was right.

Do yourself a favour and play this game without hints or a walkthrough.

It will take you a while (it took me about 20 hours) to do so and you WILL get stuck a LOT, but trust the game designer like I did:

You are in good hands here and everything does make sense in the end.

The Smallest Points

I had a lot of fun with this game which I thought was an excellent use of the manipulation of punctuation. The puzzle was great in it's own right but I would love to see similar incorporated (in context) in a full-blown adventure!

I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do to start with but enjoyed experimenting until the penny dropped! I found the concept quite innovative, very interesting & had a lot of fun playing!

Heavy Metal Nannulf: The Strange Stage

I really liked the game, the story was interesting & being relatively short I didn't mind going back & forth. In appearance it has quite a distinctive style which I appreciated although I hate to say that I couldn't get on with the animation of Nannulf - I would have preferred it to have been smoother.

Adventure: Welcome to the Genre

I love this game! One is totally immersed in the genre and history of 40 years of writing. The puzzles are, as Sherlock Holmes would say "A 3 pipe problem", yet all are solvable and the graphics are appropriate to the time and game(s) applicable. Storyline is superb, as engaging as the "Ben Jordan" series. If you haven't played the other 2 in the series then do so. You MUST play this.

A Tale of Two Kingdoms: Deluxe Edition

I've bought this game and it's one of the best retro-style adventure game ever ! It took me weeks to finish but it was fun.
Some puzzles are really hard but you can find a walkthrough in Dutch language on Google. I've used Google Translate and it was very helpful.

A Landlord's Dream

A landlord's Dream builds a huge world through clever writing with only 3 rooms to visit (and a terminal that enrichens the world) that has all your cyberpunk and scifi needs coverd with said terminals, implants, chargers, brainhacking and AI overtakes. Also a fantastic prophet is to be met and calmed by shutting down his visionary brain.
Some rather abstract puzzles are met with some fun puzzles, follow the video if you are stuck. The minimalistic soundtrack follows along with the story and the cool background graphics in low colorcount pixelart.

Find a longplay of the game here:

Chance Of The Dead

Chance of the Dead is a cute and very wordy game about a cheerleader that is brought back to life from her way too soon death and she gets a second chance. It all ends in a bake off contest and you solve some puzzles while the entertaining and a bit too wordy story keeps you on track. Some funny SFX and a fitting soundtrack make it a game you should be playing right now. Or just watch the spoilerfilled longplay here:

Eerie Blue

How to move forward tripped me up at times, but it's also different than your standard adventure game. I haven't played the whole thing yet, but I really enjoy the whole look and style of the game. Smooth, intuitive controls. Easy to maneuver around the game, which I really appreciate. The art is wonderful. The only sticking point were some of the gameplay/puzzle elements.

Black Morph

Love this! All the elements come together to make a really fun idea and style. I haven't finished it yet, but this is excellent.

Captain Disaster in: Death Has A Million Stomping Boots

A spoof of the space opera genre that actually manages to be THE best space opera I've seen in years. It's quite simply FUN! It's got a memorable cast of aliens, robots and AI's. It's got an epic finale. But it doesn't take itself very seriously, and pokes fun at everything - especially its main character. He's a slob and he knows it. But he gets things done - even if the whole universe conspires against him.
The game's a classic point&click in every way. It's got simple, neat lo-res graphics, some funky electronic beats, fun puzzles, and lots and lots of humor (that doesn't rely on referencing Space Quest).

2018-01-26 22:14:24, Fitz

Neofeud is everything we love about cyberpunk and neo-noir: a disgruntled investigator traversing the dystopian world of the future to unravel a grand conspiracy. It is on par with the genre's neo-classics such as Technobabylon and Primordia. Its strongest suit is the writing. The investigation revolves around an engaging story of inequality, injustice, hubris, depravity and twisted socio-politics. It's a biting satire on the world of today, translated into the archetypes of futurism, with robots, flying cars and AI viewed through the dark sunglasses of cyberpunk. It gets really philosophical, esoteric even, with its musings on human consciousness and alternate realities -- but it doesn't shy away from comic relief, either. There are nods to film classics of the 80's and 90's, plenty of outrageous name puns, and two quirky sidekicks helping Karl Carbon on his mission.
The graphics have their own unique style: instead of going for huge pixels (as most retro adventure games do) or pre-rendered 3D, Neofeud's locations and characters are part digipainted, part collage -- which, surprisingly, fits the game's world itself perfectly. The music -- various styles and flavors of electronica -- goes well with the cyberpunk settings and the plot itself, as it shifts between grim stagnation, action and moments of reverie. The voice acting is solid -- and indeed, the characters talk a lot. Interactions seem to be the most important game mechanics, logical puzzles being on the simple side, so as to keep the story going. There's plenty of action and plot twists, and an epic dramatic grand finale. A grand adventure not to be missed!

Cosmos Quest I

Great game! I like the first chapter very much. I am very curious now about the next chapters, downloading now the second one!

2018-02-11 21:32:11, grendel

A Curious Silence

For this game, I think it is worth checking out the manual first, as there are a very numerous amount of characters, and their backgrounds are in the manual. It makes them a bit more three-dimensional, and then well, find out who lives and who dies. One of those games!

Some of the character graphics are a bit goofy, and some characters look like Darth Vader, but just know they are all on your team.

I found the music quietly disturbing, as it should be, and added to a good gaming experience.

2018-01-24 23:08:56, Andy

Unexpected at the Rising Star

You don't have to worry about this being another ugly, plastic 3D adventure game, as the renders in this game go from completely adequate to gorgeous. The old style Galactica especially has never looked better.

Something about this game makes it feel like a classic adventure from way back. The detailed animations stand out, and their use will get copied by less scrupulous developers like myself.

Sometimes the movement on some sequences is a bit off, and surely a female Starbuck is the way to go (the addition of Muffit would justify a male Starbuck BTW), but you should play this game.

Memories Fade

I echo what others have said. This game told a touching story well, using a nice variation of puzzles, well-written dialogue and simple but pleasing art. Well worth a player's time :)

2018-01-21 12:26:36, Kini

Conspiracy: Below-Zero

At first, it feels like the game is too simple, but as the game evolves, there becomes a bit more depth involved. It becomes quite an enjoyable adventure. I found the character Leech quite irritating, she barely gives you time to think, and tells you to get moving constantly. But if you can take that into your stride, I think this is a fun little adventure, well worth playing.

2018-01-21 12:23:52, Andy

Jorry [Demo]

Wow! The atmospheric elements of this game are great. The art, the music, and sound effects are well done. The art is a little more "noisy" than I like, but they work for this genre of game. I'm not a big fan of fighting in adventure games, but overall I am impressed by Jorry. I especially enjoyed the boiler first coming alive... wonderful! Unfortunately the "fighting" game play isn't my cup of tea, but everything else this game has to offer definitely is.

Captain Disaster in: Death Has A Million Stomping Boots

I played the full version, yay! I was excited to see the game complete. The jokes, and Captain Disaster himself were really fun to play. The voice-acting was okay. The music and sound-effects were good. The story was fun, but strange in some places, as were the puzzles, so I admit I used the walk-through to get unstuck at times. I felt that some story and/or puzzle elements may have been rushed. But overall, I enjoyed the game. I laughed, and laughed again. :)

2018-01-21 03:29:35, HanaIndiana

Played the demo this weekend. I really like the story, and the world building is impressive. It's interesting and different than most adventure games I've played. The dialog can be long at parts, and overall the GUI and art is a bit rough around the edges. However the art is nothing like I've seen before, which is pretty cool. Overall I added the full version to my wishlist. I'll probably want to play the full thing at some point. The music and voice-acting is pretty good.

A Tale of Two Kingdoms: Deluxe Edition

For any adventure gamer sitting on the fence thinking about whether to buy this game. Just come down off of that fence and buy it right this second. I don't think anyone could be disappointed with this absolutely brilliant game.

There is so much to see and do, it took me days to play through (and I had already played the original).

Personally I loved the visual greenery the most, with the music and the wildlife. Plus there is some great voice-acting and even multiple different endings.

2018-01-21 00:06:19, Andy

Last & Furious

This is very cool, should be played with wild physics. It would be great if a future version came with a setting between normal and wild. This should be the default.

Captain Disaster in: Death Has A Million Stomping Boots

Really hilarious comedy point-and-click of the classic sort. Any fan of Space Quest would love this to pieces. Puzzles are spot-on, never really got stuck for any extreme length of time and yet they were not too easy either. Right in the Goldilocks Zone! Visuals are nice and pay homage to the old school point and clicks and work for the retro pixel art aesthetic that this game is going for. (Side note: Captain D's surprised face cracks me up. I order at Starbucks with that face and it never fails to crack the barrista up either.) If you like your British humor extra cheesy with a cheesy stuffed crust and smothered in cheese sauce (as many old-school p-n-cs were) then you will love this. There are so many sci-fi references in here, if it was any more dense with Whovian, Star Trek, Star Wars and other 20th-century IP callbacks it would turn into a neutron star with the face of the Cat from Red Dwarf.

I give it 6 1/2 faux Alan Rickmans out of 5! :D

Legend of Hand

This is a rather unique game - elements of adventure gaming are mixed with a touch of RPG and rolled up in a martial arts blanket. The graphics style is perfect for the quirky nature of the game and there's plenty of vibrant animation. Puzzles are generally fairly easy but there are one or two pretty tough ones. The ending may leave you scratching your head a little, but in a good way.

I'd definitely recommend it - I'm certain it will be unlike anything else you've ever played, and you'll have a great time meeting and defeating the masters of each island, before finding Hand himself!

I worked on the demo for this, it's great to see the final product! If you have a fondness for planet-hopping sci-fi TV shows and movies of yesteryear, and you also like the idea of guiding a bumbling buffoon through a comedy of errors in deep space, give this game a try. Along the way you'll battle against galactic evildoers (not to mention various pieces of technology that are supposed to be there to help you) and cross paths with partying robots, huge translucent gelatinous shopkeepers, alien bureaucrats, and more...

I Want Out!

find a LONGPLAY filled with SPOILERS here:

A true gem in the AGS Database!
A beautifully painted adventure game in charming 320x200 pixels with some puzzly puzzles, just like you'd expect it. There are so many puzzles and red herrings put into this only one room (and an invisible basement), it's pure fun solving these on your quest to escape the room and you'll find quite some coin slots and tightly screwed on things on your way but you have no tools at first. Sometimes finding the correct verb to use for the correct action is a bit tedious, but it all makes sense once you solve it (or watch me solve it in the longplay linked above after you are stuck!), and author NicolaGs even toned down one of these interactions on my critique, thanks for that.
The animations of the boy and that stone plate are really pleasing to watch, the whole game is really polished!
A great selection of atmospheric free music as soundtrack keeps you playing until you are through and is no distraction but gently comforts you along the way, just like it should.

I couldn't get very far in the game, as nothing seemed to be happening. Maybe I was supposed to sell more stuff for money in order to continue, but I'm not sure. Too bad because it had an interesting look and feel to it.

A Curious Silence

Wow, this was a huge story, and I had a hard time following, but I understood enough to continue along. A couple puzzles were tough, but I managed eventually. The original music cues were cool, and the graphics were ok. I wished there was more gameplay and less dialog, but that's just a personal taste. It was a little "out there", which I liked. :)

Space Tunneler

Video added of a complete playthrough by me (not a perfect playthrough since after nearly 2 years I'd forgotten some important things about the game!!).

The Visitor

I’ll say this: I always admired the retro graphics of this game, but thought it probably wouldn’t interest me much to play. I’m not sci-fi lover, but this was really fun. Why did I wait so long to play? I’m glad I took the time to read the reviews, because it really IS a great, classic-style adventure game. I very much enjoyed it, and can’t wait to play the other 2.

...with that said...what REALLY sold me on this game was when both the human AND the alien hated spiders. Won me right over.

King Of Rock

I had WAY too much difficulty getting the game to work with this interface. It’s a shame too, because it seems like a really cute little game.

OSD Archipelago Adventures 1

This is one of my favorite AGS games ever, possibly one of my favorite games period. I was addicted to this game. And then it was just......over! Game over man, game over!

The dialogue is great, the gameplay is addictive and interesting, and overall the game has that rare atmospheric quality that is hard to define, the sort of thing that makes it special.

Where's the sequel?

The Granville Cronicles

The demo hints at an interesting storyline, but there isn't really much else on show.

Jacqueline White - Curse of the Mummies

This demo seems to have the makings of a very enjoyable game: a lovely intro cutscene, some generally pleasing artwork and a very well-implemented flying-sim mini-game.

Unfortunately, the puzzles are harmed by the interface, which is in need of work.

A simple idea. Go around finding the bits you need to build your own go-kart, that's all there is to it. Quite fun, though.

It's a tiny game but well worth checking out for the nice art and two endings.

Conspiracy: Below-Zero

This is a pretty fun little game especially for people who like the x-files and who have a sense of humor.

Last & Furious

I love this sort of game, and this one is fantastic. Would be over the moon to see it developed further!

Gateway Remake

I may have to try this out. I've played its sequel "Gateway II: Homeworld." It'd be interesting to learn the origin of the saga.

A basic yet intriguing story with a nice presentation. The puzzles are varied and I could proceed without much trouble but once.

Eerie Blue

A promising game with an interesting stress system. The graphics are excellent but it's a shame that everything's so small.

The Majestic Conspiracy demo

Nice presentation but not much to do. The demo's over before something happens.
